The Myth of Menopause: Why I Refused to Be Medicated Into Silence
My Body Refused to Be Silenced—And I Finally Listened
When the symptoms of what’s termed peri-menopause first appeared, I couldn’t separate what was hormonal from what was emotional, or physical from psychological. I was in the aftermath of divorce. I had two young daughters, chronic stress, and a body in rebellion. It wasn’t peri-menopause—it was a perfect storm.
And yet, deep down, I knew this wasn’t something I could outsource to HRT.
I tried. Briefly. I got the coil—and my body rejected it so violently I wet myself involuntarily. Twice. That was the moment I knew: my body would not tolerate what wasn’t aligned.
And in truth, it never has.
A Rejection of Numbness
Even in my younger years, birth control anaesthetised me. It dulled my joy, my clarity, my connection to life. I had vowed never to let that happen again—and when I entered midlife, I meant it. I refused the mainstream narrative that this was something to treat. I didn’t want symptom management—I wanted understanding.
And I already had a foundation:
By the time these changes began, I was already deeply refining myself. Years of adversity had taught me to listen, to observe, to watch the way my energy moved through the world. My cycle had already synced with the moon. I knew my rhythms. I had built my life around longevity and health, not vanity or optimisation. So I treated my body like a sports car—something precise, powerful, and worthy of the highest care.
Radical Self-Responsibility
If I experience a symptom, I don’t treat it. I investigate it. I don’t patch the pain—I explore the cause.
That’s not always convenient, but it’s necessary.
Because I don’t have the luxury of being unaccountable for my health.
My health is my wealth.
Without it, I have nothing. And through this lens, peri-menopause became a portal—not to breakdown, but to breakthrough.
Menopause Is Not a Decline
Menopause, for me, is not a medical issue. It’s a metaphysical awakening. A moment when the old mask can no longer be worn. When the truth rises to the surface—physically, emotionally, spiritually. A shedding. A refinement. A return.
It is not a malfunction.
It is not a diagnosis.
It is not a problem to be solved.
It is a reminder.
That the way you’ve been living is no longer sustainable. That anything untrue will be shaken loose. And that your body is demanding to be heard—not silenced.

Let’s stop numbing women through midlife.
